The Rigveda praises all things, that is, God has given light to the properties of all substances, so the intellect people should read the Rigveda first and take all the things from God to earth, for the sake of benefiting in the world. The meaning of the word Rigveda is that in order to describe the qualities and nature of all substances, the word 'Rigveda' means means that it is meant for true knowledge. From 'Agnimile' to 'Yatha: Suhasati' Rigveda has eight octaves in the Rig Veda and eight chapters in each octave. Total number of chapters are sixty four.

ऋग्वेद से सब पदार्थों की स्तुति होती है अर्थात् ईश्वर ने जिसमें सब पदार्थों के गुणों का प्रकाश किया है, इसलिये विद्वान् लोगों को चाहिये कि ऋग्वेद को प्रथम पढ़के उन मन्त्रों से ईश्वर से लेके पृथिवी-पर्य्यन्त सब पदार्थों को यथावत् जानके संसार में उपकार के लिये प्रयत्न करें। ऋग्वेद शब्द का अर्थ यह है कि जिससे सब पदार्थों के गुणों और स्वभाव का वर्णन किया जाय वह ‘ऋक्’ वेद अर्थात् जो यह सत्य सत्य ज्ञान का हेतु है, इन दो शब्दों से ‘ऋग्वेद’ शब्द बनता है। ‘अग्निमीळे’ यहां से लेके ‘यथा वः सुसहासति’ इस अन्त के मन्त्र-पर्यन्त ऋग्वेद में आठ अष्टक और एक एक अष्टक में आठ आठ अध्याय हैं। सब अध्याय मिलके चौसठ होते हैं।
